A Teacher's Heart Reaches Across Borders

Special New Friends at Colegio Bucerias Presentation of Certificates of Completion of the Teaching Beyond Borders Program - June 11-15, 2018 Principal y Principal Our time in Bucerias is quickly coming to a close.  We are processing our week with much gratitude for an amazing experience that we will never forget. Colegio Bucerias is a beautiful school with amazing staff members and intelligent, capable students just preparing for their positions as future leaders of the country of Mexico.  Susan, Amber, and I are so thankful that we had the opportunity to become acquainted with this gem of a learning community - we now have a partner school in Mexico!  As soon as we left the school on Friday, our Facebook messages started "dinging" with friend requests from all of the teachers that we worked with this week.  A few of them are already planning trips to come to Colorado and visit at Mortensen! Ensure the World's a Little Better When You Leave

Welcomed for the Week to Bucerias Mary Lou De Lourdes Romero Serna is the principal and owner of Colegio de Bucerias, the school where Susan Romanyshyn, Amber Schlueter, and I will spend one week teaching and learning this week.  Over 25 years ago Mary Lou made a commitment - to create a private school where not just the extremely wealthy children of this area could attend.  The school now serves 550 students from pre-school through high-school who reside in the Vallarta Nayarit Bay Area of Mexico.   Susan, Amber and I arrived in Puerta Vallarta on Saturday, 9 June with no complications.  A welcome dinner at La Quinta Di Francesco in the small seaside town of Bucerias was delightful.  We thought it was great that our hosts took us to an Italian Restaurant in Mexico for our first night!  Throughout the evening we conversed and became acquainted with Mary Lou and her Lead Teacher, Judith.  As we were visiting and hearing about the plans for our week...
