Mary Beth and Kevin Properly Welcomed in Oz!

Mr. and Mrs. Osburn Receive Australian Welcome!

Hello Elementary Friends,

The time that I was waiting for finally came!  Mary Beth and Kevin arrived in Sydney last Friday (6th) at 7:10 AM.  They totally missed May 5th this year.  They will have an extra long May 16th on their way back to make up for it!  Beaumont Road school staff welcomed them in grand style, and we have had some wonderful experiences with them since their arrival.

On Friday evening we took the ferry to Circular Quay and had dinner at the Opera House Western Foyers Eat Drink Cafe.  It has amazing views of the Harbor Bridge.  Here are some photos of our evening on Friday.

On Saturday (7th) Mary Beth and I got our hair cut, highlighted (Mary Beth), and styled at the local hair salon that I have used a few times.  It was so fun!  Then, we took the ferry back into the city to go to the Rocks Market - a street market open each Saturday and Sunday just near Circular Quay.

On Saturday evening we were invited to dinner at the home of one of the teachers at Beaumont Road - also there were Malcolm McDonald (Principal), his wife, and our facility manager.  It was such a lovely evening, and Mary Beth and Kevin saw "first hand" the hospitality that we have been shown since we have been here!

Mother's Day 2016

My Mother's Day started out at Bondi Beach!  It was a bit chilly, but very beautiful.  Kevin is considering trying surfing later in the week.  He says he won't need a wet suit, but I think he might change his mind!

A beautiful late lunch at the Hunters Hill Club ensured a perfect day for me!

On Monday (9th) Mary Beth and  Kevin joined Mitch and me at school to see how we spend our days at work.  They saw Mitch with Year Five and Six students working on original plays in Spanish.  They also took part in my students Topic Talks.  This week the topic was "When I grow up..."  Several of my children want to be vets, some others a gymnast, a journalist, an astronaut, and a teacher!  Finally, they attended our weekly K-2 Assembly.  Mary Beth showed the students a video of Breckenridge Ski Area where she works, and Malcolm had two of my students present them with Beaumont Road Medallions around their necks!

That evening several school staff members met us at the Woolwich Pier Hotel for $14.00 steak night.  The school personnel were so interested in getting to know Kevin and Mary Beth and making suggestions about how to spend the time that they are here,  I think they felt pretty special and very properly welcomed to Australia!

Tuesday (10th) Malcolm insisted that I take the day off to travel with Mitch, Kevin, and Mary Beth to the Blue Mountains and to Jenolan Caves (about 2.5 hours west of Sydney).  We had a lovely day and saw some beautiful scenery.  I was so grateful to be able to spend this time with them,

On Tap for Wednesday for Mary Beth and Kevin will be Manly Beach, and on Thursday they will go to Featherdale Wildlife Refuge where they will see all sorts of Australian wildlife.
Then - we have a beach house at Nelson Bay reserved for this weekend!  Next week's blog will update you, but by that time they will be home, and I don't want to think about that yet!

So, have a great week, dear friends!
